WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Max Holy hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to help No. 3-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball post a 13-12, comeback win over the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats in the second game of a three-game MIAA series Saturday, March 9, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (18-3, 7-1 MIAA) and Bearcats (6-12, 1-7 MIAA) are scheduled to wrap up the series with a game at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 10, in Warrensburg.
After Northwest Missouri scored nine runs in the top of the sixth inning to gain a 12-10 advantage, the Mules answered with three in the bottom of the eighth to regain the 13-12 lead.
Cole Moore belted an RBI triple to left-center, scoring
Ayden Blachowicz, before Holy smashed a 2-2 pitch over the left-center wall for a two-run homer – his fifth round-tripper of the season, putting UCM in front for good.
Holy ended the game going 3-for-5 with three runs, a double, home run and career-best seven RBIs while Moore was 2-for-4 with a double, triple, three runs and three RBIs, and
Adamo Stornello was 3-for-3 with a run driven in, leading Central Missouri at the plate in the win.
UCM reliever
Harrison Babbitt (2-0) earned the victory on the mound, allowing no earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and zero walks in 3 1/3 innings.
Parker Griffith was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, pacing Northwest Missouri State offensively.
Bearcat reliever Jacob Gajic (1-3) suffered the loss on the rubber, surrendering five runs – two earned – on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk in 4 2/3 innings.
