KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sixth-seeded Central Missouri Jennies basketball fell just short of completing a second-half comeback, dropping a 65-63 decision to the third-seeded Fort Hays State Tigers in the MIAA Women's Basketball Championship presented by Southern Bank quarterfinals Friday, March 8, inside Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City.
The Jennies wrap up their 2023-24 season with an overall record of 21-8 and a MIAA mark of 15-7. Fort Hays State advances to the semifinals with the victory and moves to 23-6 on the season.
Brooke Littrell netted a team-high 27 points and 13 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season while
Olivia Nelson scored 14 points and added five steals, pacing UCM in the game.
For the game, Central Missouri shot 36 percent from the field (22-of-61), 39 percent from three-point range (5-of-13) and were 14 of 16 at the free-throw line for 88 percent. The Jennies outrebounded the Tigers, 38-29, and outscored FHSU in the paint, 32-26.
Fort Hays State shot 50 percent from the field in the game, making 22 out of 44 shot attempts.
Katie Wagner had 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Olivia Hollenbeck chipped in 19 points, pacing FHSU.
