TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Central Missouri Jennies (17-18, 6-8 MIAA) split a doubleheader with the Northeastern State RiverHawks (7-24, 2-12 MIAA) winning by final score of 5-0 before falling 7-6 on Saturday, March 30, from RiverHawks Park in Tahlequah, Okla.
The Jens return to the diamond on Saturday, March 30, as they continue MIAA play hosting No. 9 Central Oklahoma Bronchos (27-6, 9-0 MIAA) with first pitch of game one scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
Game 1: Central Missouri 5, Northeastern State 0
UCM opened the scoring in the top of the first with a pair of runs thanks to an RBI single from second baseman
Taylor Thompson (scoring
Lexi Blackmon &
Jadyn Sheffield). With the bases loaded and nobody out in the second, Blackmon doubled the Jens lead with an RBI single through the right side that scored
Aubrie McRoberts and
Halle Howes.
Central Missouri added a run in the sixth off the bat of
Hayden Serna that scored
Laney Killpack making it a five-run advantage as redshirt junior
Paige Petefish (6-5) gets her sixth win of the season allowing just four hits and striking out three on 70 pitches.
Thompson led UCM offensively going 3-for-4 with two RBI while McRoberts went 2-for-3 with a run scored for good measure.
Game 2: Northeastern State 7, Central Missouri 6
The RiverHawks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, but UCM left fielder
Abby Allnutt tied the game with a lead-off homer (her third of the season) in the fourth. NSU answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, but with one on and two outs in the fifth Thompson tied the game at three with her team-leading eighth home run of the season.
The RiverHawks responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth taking a 7-3 lead, but Central Missouri had the bases loaded and nobody out in the seventh as
Breanna Newton walked in a run, cutting the deficit. With one out in the inning, McRoberts singled into left field, scoring Thompson before Killpack's RBI walk made it a one run game. NSU would hold on to win the ballgame 7-6 picking up their seventh win of the season.
Thompson led UCM at the plate going 2-for-4 on the afternoon with two RBI and two runs scored while Serna, Newton, Allnutt, and McRoberts each collected a hit in the contest.
