Petefish’s No Hitter Helps Jennies Softball Sweep Doubleheader with Lincoln

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (12-13, 3-3) swept a pair of games against the Lincoln Blue Tigers (8-16, 0-4) by final scores of 8-0 (5 inn.) and 2-0 on Tuesday, March 19, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.

The Jens return to the diamond on Friday, March 22, as they continue a 12-game homestand with a doubleheader against No. 23 Washburn Ichabods (23-9, 4-4) for Cancer Awareness Night with first pitch of game one scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.

Game 1: Central Missouri 8, Lincoln 0 (5 inn.)
The Jens jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with solo homers from Taylor Thompson (fourth of the season), Laney Killpack (first career), and Hayden Serna (first career) after three innings of play. Central Missouri extended their lead in the fourth with a pair of RBI doubles from Aubrie McRoberts and Lexi Blackmon before Jadyn Sheffield's RBI single made it 6-0.

After Thompson began the bottom of the fifth with a hit-by-pitch, left fielder Abby Allnutt hit the fourth Jens homer of the game helping UCM pick up their 11th win of the season as redshirt junior Paige Petefish (3-5) dominated in the circle tossing her first career no-hitter striking out nine batters.

Blackmon, Serna, and Allnutt paced the Jens offensively, collecting multi-hit games for good measure.

Game 2: Central Missouri 2, Lincoln 0
The Jens got on the board in the bottom of the second inning with good base running from Thompson who advanced home (from third base) as Halle Howes got caught in a rundown at first base. In the third, Thompson plated an insurance run (scoring Sheffield) with a sacrifice fly as freshman Brooke Weimer (5-5) allowed just three hits while striking out 10 Blue Tiger batters.

First baseman Breanna Newton paced UCM offensively going 2-for-3 at the dish while six other Jens recorded hits in the winning effort.
