WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (13-14, 4-4) split a pair of games with No. 23 Washburn Ichabods (24-10, 5-5) winning by a final score of 6-1 before falling 5-1 on Friday, March 22, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
The Jens return to the diamond on Saturday, March 23, as they conclude a 12-game homestand with a doubleheader against the Emporia State Hornets (20-13, 4-6) for Jamin Landreth Memorial Day with first pitch of game one scheduled for 12:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
Game 1: Central Missouri 6, No. 23 Washburn 1
The Jens got on the board first with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch of first baseman
Breanna Newton (scoring
Lexi Blackmon), followed by an RBI groundout from second baseman
Taylor Thompson (scoring
Jadyn Sheffield) making it 2-0. The next at-bat UCM doubled their advantage thanks to left fielder
Abby Allnutt's RBI double down the left field line (scoring
Hayden Serna and Thompson).
The Ichabods cut their deficit to three with a run in the fourth, but Central Missouri answered in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs thanks to a lead-off solo shot from catcher
Laney Killpack (her second of the year) before taking advantage of an error by Washburn off the bat of Newton scored Sheffield.
Redshirt junior
Paige Petefish (4-5) picked up her fourth win of the season in the circle allowing six hits, one run (earned) while striking out four Ichabods as Sheffield led UCM offensively going 2-for-4 at the plate scoring twice for good measure.
Game 2: No. 23 Washburn 5, Central Missouri 1
The Ichabods struck first with a trio of runs in the top of the second inning before adding a run in the fourth and another in the seventh. UCM got on the board with an RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Killpack (scoring Allnutt) as Washburn picked up their 24
th victory of the season.
Freshman
Brooke Weimer (5-6) suffered the loss in the circle allowing five runs on 10 hits while striking out five Ichabods as Allnutt paced UCM offensively going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
