Jennies Softball Splits Doubleheader at Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (7-10, 1-3) split a pair of games against the Missouri Southern Lions (19-6, 3-1) winning by a final score of 2-1, before falling 8-0 (6 inn.) on Sunday afternoon from Pat Lipira Softball Complex in Joplin.   
 
The Jens return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 12, as they begin a 12-game homestand with a doubleheader against the Southwest Baptist Bearcats (10-10, 0-0) with first pitch of game one scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.  
 
Game 1: Central Missouri 2, Missouri Southern 1
Missouri Southern struck first with a solo run in the bottom of the second, but the Jens responded in the fifth with a 2-RBI single from center fielder Aubrie McRoberts that scored Breanna Newton and Abby Allnutt as junior Paige Petefish (2-3) picked up the victory in the circle allowing seven hits and striking out one on 98 pitches in the complete-game performance.
 
McRoberts, Newton, Allnutt, and Lexi Blackmon each collected a hit in the contest pacing UCM offensively.
 
Game 2: Missouri Southern 8, Central Missouri 0 (6 inn.)
The Lions plated a single run in the first inning followed by a pair of runs in the second, third, and fourth before adding another run in the sixth as UCM had five batters record a hit in the game including MaKenzie Cooper, Halle Howes, McRoberts, Newton, and Blackmon.
