ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Three Jennies scored in double figures as the Central Missouri women's basketball team posted a 66-58 win over preseason No. 15-ranked Ferris State Sunday, Nov. 3, in the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic at Civic Arena in downtown St. Joseph, Mo.
The Jennies (1-1) are slated to host Henderson State (0-0) in the Central Bank Regional Crossover Challenge Friday, Nov. 8, at 11:30 a.m. inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg.
Leading by six, 32-26, at halftime, UCM used a 11-4 run to start the third quarter to open up a 43-30 lead after a
Lauren Frost jumper with 4:22 to go in the quarter.
Ferris State fought back and took a 50-49 lead with 7:24 to go in the fourth quarter, but Central Missouri responded with a 6-0 run to regain a 55-50 advantage and never trailed again.
Reese Schaaf scored a layup, followed by back-to-back layups from Weishaar for the five-point lead with 4:50 remaining in the stanza.
Schaaf ended the game with 17 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and snagged nine rebounds, Frost had 15 points, seven boards and four assists, and Weishaar added 14 points and six rebounds, pacing Central Missouri in the victory.
The Jennies shots 48 percent from the floor, going 28-of-58, and were 8-of-11 at the free-throw line for 73 percent. UCM outrebounded Ferris State, 46-34, and outscored the Bulldogs in the paint, 42-26.
Mia Riley and Emma Schierbeek each netted 14 points to lead Ferris State (1-1).
