ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The No. 22-ranked Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm used a strong fourth quarter to lead it to a 68-65 victory over Central Missouri Jennies basketball in the 2024-25 season opener for both teams Saturday, Nov. 2, in the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic at Civic Arena in downtown St. Joseph.
The Jennies (0-1) are slated to face No. 15 Ferris State (0-0) in the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, in St. Joseph.
UCM led 47-43 going into the fourth quarter when Southern Nazarene (1-0) outscored the Jennies, 25-18, in the final stanza to rally and post the 68-65, comeback win.
Allie Clevenger scored a career-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor, including a 4-for-5 performance from three-point range, and went 1-of-2 at the free-throw line, while
Lauren Frost netted 14 points and dished out four assists, and
Reese Schaaf pulled down 11 rebounds, leading Central Missouri in the contest.
For the game, the Jennie shot 40 percent from the field (23-for-58), 36 percent from three-point range (5-of-14) and 74 percent from the free-throw line (14-of-19). UCM outrebounded Southern Nazarene, 41-36, but were outscored in the paint by SNU, 42-30.
Hannah Giddey (18 points) and Umi Otsuka (17 points) paced the Crimson Storm.
