WICHITA, Kan. – Third-seeded Central Missouri Jennies soccer captured its seventh MIAA Tournament Championship in program history after shutting out the fourth-seeded Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 1-0, in the 2024 MIAA Women's Soccer Tournament title match Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Scheels Stryker Sports Complex.
With the win, the Jennies (15-4-2) earn the MIAA's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA-II Central Region Tournament. The complete 2024 NCAA-II Women's Soccer Tournament field will be unveiled Monday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. CT during the NCAA-II Women's Soccer Tournament Selection Show on NCAA.com.
Central Missouri scored what proved to be the decisive goal in the match just 13 minutes into the first half when
Lexie Ruf took a pass from
Mackenzie Smith and blasted it into the back of the net. It was Ruf's fifth goal and Smith's first assist of 2024.
The Jennies kept the Bronchos off the scoreboard the remaining 77 minutes of the contest, sealing the MIAA tournament title.
For the match, Central Oklahoma (12-6-3) outshot Central Missouri, 9-6, including a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal, but the Jennies bested the Bronchos in corner kicks, 6-0.
UCM goalkeeper
Kristen Wright (15-4-2) earned the win and her seventh shutout of the season in goal after allowing no goals while making five saves in 90 minutes.
UCO goalkeeper Avery Bass suffered the setback in goal for Central Oklahoma, giving up one goal while making three saves in 90 minutes.
