WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Top-seeded Central Missouri Jennies soccer scored two second half goals to lead it to a 2-0 shutout win over the eight-seeded Ouachita Baptist Tigers in the opening round of the NCAA-II Central Region Tournament Friday, Nov. 22, at the South Recreation Complex.
The Jennies (16-4-2) will face fourth-seeded Central Oklahoma (12-6-4) in the second round Sunday, Nov. 24, at 3 p.m. in Warrensburg. The Bronchos eliminated fifth-seeded Washburn via a 3-0 penalty-kick shootout win in their opening round contest.
After both teams played to a scoreless draw in the first-half, UCM broke the stalemate nine minutes into the second half when
Kate Ricker netted a goal off an assist from
Ashleigh Martin in the 54th-minute, putting the Jennies in front, 1-0. It was Ricker's second goal and Martin's sixth assist of the season.
UCM doubled its advantage to 2-0 three minutes later in the 57th-minute after
Andree Orcutt slotted a free-kick into the back of the net for her fifth goal of 2024.
For the match, the Jennies outshot the Tigers (8-8-4), 20-1, including a 12-0 advantage in shots on goal. UCM also bested OBU in corner kicks, 15-2.
Central Missouri goalkeeper
Kristen Wright (16-4-2) earned her eighth shutout of the season between the posts after allowing no goals in 90 minutes.
Ouachita Baptist goalkeeper Taylor Hapgood suffered the loss in goal, giving up two goals while making 10 saves in 90 minutes.
