WICHITA, Kan. – The third-seeded Central Missouri Jennies soccer team punched a ticket to the 2024 MIAA Women's Soccer Tournament Championship match after shutting out second-seeded and No. 21-ranked Missouri Western, 2-0, in the tournament semifinals Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Scheels Stryker Sports Complex.
The Jennies (14-4-2) will face the winner of the Washburn and Central Oklahoma semifinal match in the championship contest at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, in Wichita. This will be UCM's fourth straight appearance in the title match.
Central Missouri jumped out to a 1-0 lead just seven minutes into the match when
Caroline Cole netted her eighth goal of the season off an assist from
Izzy Joyce.
Joyce doubled UCM's advantage to 2-0 over the Griffons just four minutes into the second half in the 49th-minute when she slid an assist from
Ashleigh Martin into the back of the net for her eighth goal of 2024.
For the match, the Jennies outshot Missouri Western (15-2-3), 8-5, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. UCM also bested MWSU in corner kicks, 5-1.
Central Missouri goalkeeper
Kristen Wright (14-4-2) earned the victory and her sixth shutout between the posts after allowing no goals while making two saves in 90 minutes.
Missouri Western goalkeeper Keeley Kroonenberg (13-2-3) suffered the setback in goal, surrendering two goals while making four saves in 90 minutes.
