HAYS, Kan. – No. 7-ranked Central Missouri Jennies soccer posted a 2-0, shutout win over the Fort Hays State Tigers Friday evening, Oct. 4, at the FHSU Soccer Stadium.
The Jennies (6-2-1, 3-0 MIAA) are scheduled to travel to Kearney, Neb., for a MIAA match at Nebraska Kearney (4-1-4, 0-1-2 MIAA) Sunday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m.
Lexie Ruf opened the scoring for Central Missouri, netting her second goal of the season just 12 minutes into the match when she took an assist from
Ashleigh Martin and fired the ball into the back of the net from close range, giving UCM the 1-0 lead.
The match remained 1-0 until the 86th-minute when
Andree Orcutt converted a free-kick from just outside the box for her second goal of 2024, giving the Jennies the 2-0 lead and eventual victory.
For the match, UCM outshot Fort Hays State (5-2-2, 2-1-0 MIAA), 12-8, including a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Jennies also bested the Tigers in corner kicks, 6-4.
Central Missouri goalkeeper
Kristen Wright (6-2-1) earned the win and her fourth shutout of the season after allowing no goals and making three saves in 90 minutes.
FHSU's Mackenzie Caldwell (5-2-2) suffered the setback in goal, giving up two goals while making three saves in 90 minutes between the posts.
