WICHITA, Kan. – The Central Missouri Jennies (26-13, 10-6) sweeps their doubleheader with the Newman Jets (11-27, 1-9) winning by final scores of 5-1 and 5-2 on Friday, April 7, from Newman Softball Field in Wichita.
The Jennies return to the diamond on Saturday, April 8, as they continue conference play on the road with a doubleheader against No. 4 Central Oklahoma Bronchos beginning at noon from Gerry Pinkston Stadium in Edmond, Okla.
Game 1: Central Missouri 5, Newman 1
With runners on second and third with two outs in the top of the first inning,
MaKenzie Cooper delivers with an RBI double to the warning track in right center field giving the Jens an early 2-0 lead. On the first pitch thrown of the third inning,
Abbey Fischer increased the UCM lead with a solo homer (her fifth of the season), followed by another insurance run in the fourth off the bat of
Makenzie McAtee.
Fischer led off the top of the seventh inning with a double before scoring off a throwing error by the Newman catcher making it 5-0 Jennies. The Jets plated a run in the bottom of the seventh, but
Paige Petefish (9-3) picked up her ninth complete game of the season allowing five hits, one run (one earned) on 89 pitches.
Ashlyn Cook (one run scored) and Fischer (four runs and one RBI) led UCM offensively collecting two hits each.
Game 2: Central Missouri 5, Newman 2
Newman threatened to take the lead in the bottom of the first, but thanks to an
Andi Siebeneck strikeout UCM got out of the jam and struck first with an RBI single from
Lexi Blackmon that scored
Aubrie McRoberts in the top of the second. Catcher
Laney Killpack followed suit with an RBI single of her own to right field scoring
Jessica Sader making it 2-0 Jens.
Newman tied the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third, but Central Missouri responded with an RBI triple from Fischer scoring
Peyton Corrigan followed by a Cook RBI double extending the Jennies' lead. McAtee plated the third run of the inning with an RBI single making it 5-2 UCM as Siebeneck (9-2) picks up the victory in the circle allowing six hits and two runs while striking out seven on 106 pitches respectfully.
