MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (32-17, 16-8) splits their doubleheader with the Northwest Missouri Bearcats (26-24, 9-15) winning game one by a final score of 6-2 before falling in game two 7-3 on Friday, April 28, from Bearcat Softball Field in Maryville.
The Jens are scheduled to return to the diamond on Saturday, April 29, as they conclude regular season play with a doubleheader against the Missouri Western Griffons beginning at noon from Spring Sports Complex in St. Joseph, Mo.
Game 1: Central Missouri 6, Northwest Missouri 2
UCM got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the third after
Jessica Sader reached on an error scoring
Abbey Fischer followed by an RBI off the bat of
Abby Allnutt that scored
Ashlyn Cook. The Bearcats tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run dinger, but in the top of the seventh Central Missouri responded.
Beginning with a bases-loaded walk from Cook that scored
Jadyn Sheffield,
Makenzie McAtee extended the lead reaching on an error as
Peyton Corrigan crossed the plate followed by a single to left field from
MaKenzie Cooper scoring Cook and
Abbey Fischer as UCM earned the 6-2 victory.
Paige Petefish (11-4) throws her team-leading 10
th complete game of the season allowing just five hits, two runs (two earned) while striking out two on 78 pitches as Fischer, Cook, McAtee and Corrigan each collected two hits leading the Jens offensively.
Game 2: Northwest Missouri 7, Central Missouri 3
The Jens began the scoring in the first inning with a sacrifice fly from Sader giving UCM an early 1-0 lead, but Northwest Missouri responded with a trio of runs in the bottom of the fourth and another run in the fifth. UCM cut the deficit in the top of the sixth as
Carly Youngblood reached on a catcher's interference with the bases loaded scoring
Lexi Blackmon making it a 4-2 Bearcat lead.
Northwest extended their lead with three runs in the sixth, but the Jens fought back with an RBI single from Sader and forced the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but the Bearcats held on for a 7-3 victory.
Andi Siebeneck (9-3) suffered the loss in the circle for UCM allowing five hits, three runs (three earned), and struck out two in 3 2/3 innings while Cooper and Sader led the Jens offensively with two hits each.
