Jennies Softball Drops Both of Doubleheader at Missouri Western

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (32-19, 16-10) fell in both games of their doubleheader with the Missouri Western Griffons (35-18, 14-12) by a final scores of 4-1 and 6-1 on Saturday, April 29, from the Spring Sports Complex in St. Joseph.  

The Jens are scheduled to return to the diamond for the opening round of the 2023 MIAA Softball Tournament beginning on Wednesday, May 3, from Envista Softball Complex in Topeka, Kan.      
 
Game 1: Missouri Western 4, Central Missouri 1
The Griffons struck first with a solo homer in the bottom of the second before adding another run in the third, but the Jens responded as Peyton Corrigan reached on an error that scored Halle Howes making it a 2-1 Missouri Western lead.
 
In the sixth, the Griffons added a pair of runs as Paige Petefish (11-5) suffers the loss in the circle for UCM allowing eight hits, four runs (four earned) and striking out five while Howes led the Jens offensively going 3-3 with the lone run scored.
 
Game 2: Missouri Western 6, Central Missouri 1
The home team jumped out to a 5-0 lead highlighted by three runs in the bottom of the first, but Central Missouri plated a run in the fifth with an RBI single from Ashlyn Cook that scored Jadyn Sheffield.
 
The Griffons responded with a run in the bottom half of the fifth inning as Andi Siebeneck (9-4) suffered the loss allowing four hits, three runs (two earned) while MaKenzie Cooper, Abbey Fischer and Sheffield each collected two hits to lead UCM offensively.
