PITTSBURG, Kan. – No. 8-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball plated nine runs on nine hits, leading it to a 9-5 victory over the Pittsburg State Gorillas in game two of a three-game MIAA series Saturday, April 15, at Al Ortolani Field.
The Mules (29-11, 20-6 MIAA) and Gorillas (28-12, 19-7 MIAA) are scheduled to play the series finale Sunday, April 16, at noon.
John Prudhom went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple, going along with two RBI while
Cole Moore and
Mason Lowe each had two hits, and
Max Holy drove in three runs and belted his second home run of the season, pacing Central Missouri at the plate in the win.
Right-handed starter
Jake Wilson (3-0) earned the victory on the mound for UCM after giving up one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk in 5 1/3 innings.
The Mules broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the top of the fifth and never relinquished the lead the remainder of the game. Prudhom drove in the go-ahead run in the frame with a double down the left field line, scoring
Carter Young, before Moore plated Prudhom with a RBI single through the right side and
Brennen van Breusegen hit a sacrifice fly to left field, driving in
Seth Kenagy, for the final run of the inning.
Austin Warkins was 3-for-5 with a homer and double, pacing the Gorillas offensively.
Pittsburg State reliever Boston Dowd (1-1) suffered the setback on the rubber, surrendering three earned runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings of work.
