Jennies Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Emporia State

EMPORIA, Kan. – The Central Missouri Jennies (18-9, 4-2) swept their doubleheader with the Emporia State Hornets (16-12, 0-4) by a final score of 5-4 and 4-1 on Friday, March 24, from Turnbull Field at the Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia.
 
The Jennies return to the diamond on Saturday, March 25, for a conference doubleheader against No. 21 Washburn Ichabods beginning at 1:00 p.m. from Gahnstrom Field in Topeka, Kan. 
 
Game 1: Central Missouri 5, Emporia State 4
Central Missouri got on the board first with an RBI groundout by Makenzie McAtee that scored Abbey Fischer in the top of the first inning. With nobody on and two outs in the top of the fifth, UCM scored four runs highlighted by an Ashlyn Cook (fifth of the season) two-run homer followed by a two-run RBI double from MaKenzie Cooper giving the Jens a five-run advantage.
 
ESU scored a run in the fifth making it a 5-1 Central Missouri, but in the bottom of the seventh inning the Hornets rallied scoring three runs making it a 5-4 game. With the tying run at second and the winning run at first base with two outs, Paige Petefish gets ESU's Alexis Dial to fly out to Aubrie McRoberts for the final out preserving the 5-4 victory.
 
Petefish (6-1) gets her fourth complete game of the season while Cook led UCM offensively going 2-3 with two RBI and one run scored.
 
Game 2: Central Missouri 4, Emporia State 1
In the doubleheader finale, the Hornets got on the board first with an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. The Jens responded in the top of the third with a pair of two-out RBI singles from Cook and McAtee giving them a 2-1 lead. In the top of the fifth with two on and two out, McAtee delivers again with an RBI single to left center scoring Fischer and Jadyn Sheffield for the game-sealing insurance runs.
 
Andi Siebeneck (5-2) picked up the win in the circle throwing her third complete game of the season allowing four hits, one run and striking out two while McAtee led the Jens offensively going 3-4 with three RBI.
