WARRENSBURG, Mo. – University of Central Missouri Mules football head coach
Josh Lamberson announced three new additions to his coaching staff on Wednesday, March 22.
Former standout UCM quarterback Hayden Hawk (Assistant Head Coach, Tight Ends Coach and Recruiting Coordinator), Stephen Franklin (Special Teams Coordinator, Linebackers Coach and Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator) and Justin Bane (Passing Game Coordinator, Wide Receivers Coach and Player Development) have all joined the Mules' coaching staff.
Hawk, who was an All-MIAA quarterback for UCM from 2011-14, returns to his alma mater as Assistant Head Coach, Tight Ends Coach and Recruiting Coordinator after serving as the Offensive Coordinator at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark., from 2018 to 2022.
"We are so excited to welcome Hayden and his wife Taylor back to the UCM family," Lamberson said. "Hayden and Taylor are both alums of UCM and met during their college years here on campus. They both love the school and the people here. Coach Hawk brings a high level of intellect and success in football back to the Mules. He sees the game from a unique perspective and has an extremely high football intelligence. He is passionate about his players and the people he has an opportunity to impact. We are extremely happy that he is back where he belongs as part of the UCM family."
Under Hawk's guidance, Henderson State went a combined 26-8 from 2019-2022 and ranked 13th in total offense in 2022 and fourth in total offense in 2021. The Reddies averaged 33 points, 444 yards, 235 passing yards and 209 rushing yards per game in 2022 and 40.55 points, 494 yards, 311 passing yards and 183 rushing yards per game in 2021. He coached three All-Americans, four all-region honorees and 23 all-conference selections while at Henderson State.
Hawk graduated from Central Missouri with a bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science & Statistics in 2014 and received his master's degree in sport management from Eastern Michigan in 2018.
Franklin joins UCM as the Special Teams Coordinator, Linebackers Coach and Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator after serving as the Linebackers Coach and Special Teams Coordinator at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn., in 2021 and 2022.
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Franklin and his family to the UCM community," Lamberson said. "He is an amazing person who is also a fantastic ball coach. He brings a tremendous amount of energy and passion to the program that will raise the standard for our student-athletes in every facet of their lives. I appreciate their trust and enthusiasm to make UCM and Warrensburg their home for years to come."
At Bethel, he assisted the Royals to a combined 18-6 record and coached three all-conference linebackers in his two seasons on the sidelines.
Bethel ranked first in punting and second in kickoffs during the 2022 season. The Royals were third in PATs, converting 56 out of 57 attempts, and fourth in field goals, making nine out of 12 attempts.
Franklin spent time in the NFL (Bengals, Seahawks, and Jaguars) and CFL (Toronto Argonauts) after his all-conference career as a linebacker at Southern Illinois University.
He graduated with a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Southern Illinois in 2015.
Bane comes to Central Missouri as the Passing Game Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach from Texas where he owned and operated training facilities in multiple cities throughout the state.
Over the years, Bane has personally mentored and trained numerous professional athletes (NFL, CFL, AFL, MLB).
He is a native of Rogers, Texas, and is married to Dr. Annie Bane. They have one son, Champ.
"Coach Bane is the most unique human I have ever come across in my life," Lamberson said. "His perspective for looking at the world and finding the positive in every situation is energizing and special. He challenges so many traditional narratives that we have become accustomed to in our society. I appreciate Coach Bane and his family for jumping all into the UCM and Warrensburg community to make it their home. They are dedicated to making the lives of those people that they surround themselves with better. I am so excited to watch his impact on our football family."Â
Mules football also welcomes Adrian Duncan and Terrance Dennis. Duncan will serve as the Running Backs Coach while Dennis will be a Volunteer Assistant Coach and provide extra assistance to the offensive and special teams units.
Lamberson's new coaching staff will make their debut at the Central Missouri Mules Football Spring Game scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field in Warrensburg. Admission is free.
