Dana Chambers is now in his eighth season with the Mules in 2024. He is a 1983 graduate of UCM and played for the Mules as a defensive lineman.

Last season, Chambers assisted the Mules to an 11-2 overall record, MIAA Co-Championship and an appearance in the NCAA-II playoffs second round.

For the second straight season, defensive lineman David Olajiga garnered First Team All-MIAA honors while fellow linemen Weston King earned Second Team All-MIAA accolades and Joshua Bean received Honorable Mention All-MIAA recognition.

In 2022, he coached All-MIAA First Team defensive lineman and Don Hansen Honorable Mention All-American David Olajiga.

In 2021, he coached All-MIAA First Team defensive lineman Chima Dunga, who ranked in the top-20 in the conference in tackles for loss, fumble recoveries and quarterback sacks, and honorable mention all-conference defensive lineman Zack Aschemann.

During the Mules’ 2019 MIAA Championship season, the defensive line accounted for 24.5 of the Mules single-season school record 39 sacks, led by All-MIAA First Team member Ubong Udom.

Chambers has been around collegiate football for more than 20 years, making stops at a number of Division I and Division II institutions. Most recently, Chambers was the head coach at Kalamazoo Central High School in Kalamazoo, Mich for eight years.

He got his coaching career started with the Mules as a student assistant in 1983, working with outside linebackers and helping to organize recruiting weekends. Chambers then moved on to spots at Eastern Illinois and Western Michigan, taking over as the Western Michigan Defensive Line Coach and Special Teams Coordinator from 1991-1997.

After two years at Roosevelt High School in St. Louis as a Defensive Coordinator, Physical Education Teacher and Dean of Discipline, Chambers returned to the collegiate ranks as the Defensive Line Coach for Missouri State from 1999-2003. During that time, he also interned with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars as a defensive line coach.

Chambers then made stops at Upper Iowa, Youngstown State and the University of Akron, the latter as an Assistant Football Coach running the defensive line before taking over as the Head Coach at Kalamazoo Central High School.

In 2016, Chambers led the Maroon Giants to their first Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference East Division title since 2000. In eight seasons, Chambers was 23-49 with Kalamazoo Central.

Chambers is married to his wife, Amy Chambers. The two have one daughter, LaQuisha Brown of Columbia and two son’s Dana Chambers Jr. of Columbia and Parker Chambers.
