WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (14-7, 2-2) swept their doubleheader against the Pittsburg State Gorillas (14-8, 0-2) winning game one by a final score of 7-2 and game two 4-2, on Sunday, March 12, from the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
The Jennies return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 14 as they host the Northern State Wolves for a doubleheader with game one's first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg, Mo.
Game 1: Central Missouri 7, Pittsburg State 2
Led by a four-run bottom of the fourth inning, the Jennies came away with a 7-2 victory. The Gorillas opened the scoring in the top of the first with a two-run RBI double from Kylee Bohlee but those were the only runs they'd score as
Paige Petefish (4-1) gets the win in the circle for the Jens throwing a complete game allowing four hits and striking out five.
Offensively,
Abby Allnutt led UCM going 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored while short stop
Abbey Fischer went 2-3 with two runs scored.
Game 2: Central Missouri 4, Pittsburg State 2
In the finale, the Jens would strike first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from right fielder
Aubrie McRoberts (scoring
Lexi Blackmon) followed by an RBI single from
Jessica Sader. Pittsburg State would tie the game in the next half inning with a two-run homer, but Central Missouri would break the tie in the bottom of the fourth as first baseman
Makenzie McAtee reached on a fielder's choice that scored
Ashlyn Cook.
With one on and two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Allnutt delivered with an RBI single scoring Cook to give the Jens a 4-2 lead as pitcher
Kyleigh Lay picked up her first save of the season going three innings allowing two hits and striking out two Gorillas. Starting pitcher
Kaylee Diggs (4-1) gets the win in the circle allowing four hits, two runs (both earned) and striking out two in four innings.
