Jennies Softball Drops Both Games in Doubleheader Finale of Washburn Invite

Topeka, Kan. – The Central Missouri Jennies (8-5, 0-0) fell in both games of a doubleheader to conclude the Washburn Invite losing 5-3 against the Sioux Falls Cougars (2-4, 0-0) and falling 3-1 to the St. Cloud State Huskies (3-2, 0-0) on Saturday, Feb. 25, from Gahnstrom Field in Topeka.

The Jennies return to the diamond on Saturday, March 4, as they take on the Missouri S&T Minors at 10:00 a.m. in the opening game of the MIAA / GLVC Crossover from Gene Bicknell Sports Complex in Pittsburg, Kan.

Game 1: Sioux Falls (S.D.) 5, Central Missouri 3
The Cougars got on the board first with a trio of runs in the top of the second inning, but the Jens responded in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer off the bat of redshirt senior Ashlyn Cook (her second of the season) followed by a sacrifice fly from Abby Alluntt in the fourth tied the game at three. In the top of the fifth, Sioux Falls would respond with the go-ahead runs that proved the difference.

Central Missouri was led offensively by Cook who went 2-3 with two RBI and a run score while short stop Abbey Fischer, redshirt senior Makenzie McAtee and third baseman Jessica Sader each collected a hit.

Game 2: St. Cloud State 3, Central Missouri 1
In the final game of the Washburn Invite, the Huskies prevailed 3-1 after scoring a run in the second, fourth and fifth innings. Down to their final three outs, the Jennies were able to get a run across in the seventh off the bat of Allnutt, but St. Cloud State was able to secure the victory.

Ashlyn Cook led UCM offensively going 2-3 with a double and the lone run scored for the Jens while Abbey Fischer went 1-3 respectively.
