WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Missouri Mules baseball had the game-tying run on second base with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning but couldn't capitalize, resulting in a 5-4 loss to the Davenport Panthers in game one of a three-game series Friday, Feb. 17, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (3-5) and Panthers (2-2) are scheduled to play game two of the series at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, in Warrensburg.
Brennen van Breusegen went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, his second home run of 2023, and two RBI while
Carter Young added a pair of hits and
Vance Tobol and
Cole Moore each tallied triples, pacing Central Missouri at the plate.
UCM starting pitcher
Conner Wolf (0-2) suffered the setback on the mound after giving up two earned runs on five hits with a season-best eight strikeouts and two walks in four innings.
Ben Mets went 4-for-5 with a double and triple and a pair of runs batted in, and Khale Showers was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI, leading Davenport offensively.
Panther starter Carson Fischer (1-1) picked up the victory on the rubber, surrendering two runs – one earned – on six hits with one strikeout and three walks in six innings. Spencer Vainavicz secured the save for the visitors after throwing three innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
