BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Central Missouri Jennies (1-1, 0-0) split a double header winning game one 5-2 over Arkansas-Monticello and falling 5-1 to Arkansas Tech, in the opening day of the Alvy Early Memorial Tournament in Bentonville.
The Jennies continue play in the final day of the Alvy Early Memorial Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 12, with a pair of games against Harding (11:00 a.m.) and Henderson State (1:30 p.m.).
Game 1: Central Missouri 5, Arkansas-Monticello 2
The Jens scored two runs in the first inning thanks to a leadoff triple from senior
Abbey Fischer (2 for 3, two runs scored, one RBI overall), followed by an RBI double from left fielder
Ashlyn Cook (2 for 4, two RBI overall).
After UCM added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth with a two-out RBI triple from Fischer followed by an RBI single from Cook, the Blossoms responded with a pair of runs to cut the lead in half.
In the top of the seventh, third baseman
Jessica Sader knocked in the game's final run with an RBI double. Freshman
Andi Siebeneck picks up her first win for the Jens, pitching 3 2/3 innings allowing just one hit and striking out six in relief.
Game 2: Arkansas Tech 5, Central Missouri 1
After jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second with a solo homerun from
MaKenzie Cooper, the Golden Suns responded with a run in the bottom of the third, a run in the fourth and three in the sixth.
Redshirt freshman
Lexi Blackmon went 2-2 with a walk, while Cook and first baseman
Makenzie McAtee each collected a hit.
Redshirt sophomore
Paige Petefish suffered the loss, allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out four in five innings.
