WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Brennen van Breusegen,
Vance Tobol and
Carter Young each homered but it wasn't enough, as the No. 13-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball team fell to the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys, 10-8, in the opening game of a four-game series Friday, Feb. 10, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (1-3) and Wonder Boys (2-2) are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 11, beginning at noon in Warrensburg.
Tobol finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 and was a double shy of hitting for the cycle, tallying his first homer of the season, a triple and single while driving in two runs, leading Central Missouri at the plate.
Young was 2-for-4 with his inaugural home run of 2023, going along with an RBI, and van Breusegen went 1-for-4 with three RBI and his opening homer of the season.
John Prudhom and
Jack Schark added doubles for UCM, respectively.
Tyler Rardin (0-1) was the tough luck losing pitcher for the Mules after tossing 1 1/3 innings in relief and giving up four unearned runs on three hits with a walk.
Central Missouri led 8-3 through two innings before Arkansas Tech scored the final seven runs of the game to post the 10-8 triumph.
Sawyer Duddleston went 3-for-5 with a double and triple while Nick Jones homered, pacing Arkansas Tech offensively.
Reliever Marshall Brown (1-0) earned the victory on the mound after allowing no earned runs on five hits with one walk in 5 1/3 innings of work. Mason Griffin posted the save, throwing a scoreless ninth inning.
