INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- University of Central Missouri Mules Wrestling placed three individuals Sunday, Dec. 17 at the Midwest Classic hosted by University of Indianapolis. As a team the Mules finished in the top-15 out of 51 teams, including 21 top 25-ranked teams.Â
At 133-pounds,
Tommy Frezza was a top finisher for the Mules taking fourth place. Going 4-2 for the weekend, Frezza's wins included two bonus point victories and a 6-5 decision over Mary's fifth-ranked Reece Barnhardt. One of his two losses came in the semi-final round against Chadron State's second-ranked Quentrevian Campbell. Frezza went on to win a 4-1 decision in the consolation bracket before dropping to Wisconsin Parkside's Matthew Chi.
In the 184-pound bracket,
Damon Ashworth brought home runner-up honors with a record of 4-1. Ashworth bonused his way to the championship bracket before losing a decision to Central Oklahoma's Garrett Wells. In his four wins, Ashworth outscored his opponents 58-8 including a pin in his first match.
At heavy weight,
Trent Strong took seventh place with a 5-2 record. Strong only lost by two points total in his two losses, which came against two top-10 ranked opponents. As for the five wins, three came by bonus including two pins. The final pin came against Newberry's ninth-ranked Devon Rice in the seventh place match of the consolation bracket.Â
Up next the Mules are set to travel to Kansas City, Mo. for the Avila Duals on Saturday, Jan. 6.Â
