PARK CITY, Kan. -- University of Central Missouri Mules Wrestling opened their 2023-24 season with four place finishers at the Falcon Invite on Saturday, Nov. 4.
Jakason Burks, a Junior out of Omaha, Neb., won the 125 pound bracket. All four matches were decision victories and Burks did not give up a single offensive point, earning the Outstanding Wrestler Award.
At 157 pounds,
Conner Johnston took runner-up. The Junior out of Knob Noster, Mo., won three of his four matches in dominating fashion. His first and third matches he won by fall in the third and fifth minutes, respectively, and his second match was a tech fall of 18-1. Johnston came up short against Cam Robinson in the championship match to take runner-up.
Damon Ashworth, a Junior from Excelsior Springs, Mo., took third at 184 pounds. He also dominated his first two matches, winning by take downs in the first and second minutes, respectively. After a loss to Ottawa's Jesse Dani Perez, Ashworth won the third place match by major decision (17-8).
The final place finisher for the Mules was Redshirt Freshman
Hunter Tennison. The heavy weight won his first match by decision (10-4) and his second with a fall in the 34th second, but was defeated by Avila's Gavin Howes to finish fourth.
Next, the Mules travel to Springfield, Mo. for the Drury Duals Thursday, Nov. 16.
