WICHITA, Kan. – No. 23 Central Missouri Jennies (19-7, 16-2) swept the Newman Jets (0-25, 0-17) by a final score of 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-14) on Saturday, Nov. 4, inside Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kan.
With the score tied at five in the opening set, the Jens went on an 8-2 highlighted by a pair of kills from redshirt senior
Kersti Nix (six kills on 11 swings overall, for a .545 attack percentage) giving UCM a 1-0 advantage.
In the second set, Central Missouri led 5-3 before going on a 5-0 run beginning with a kill from reigning MIAA Setter of the Week
Olivia Olson (match-high 29 assists and nine digs overall) and ending with a kill from redshirt senior
Sydney Lierz (six kills on 15 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage) from Olson increasing the lead to 2-0.
The Jennies capped off the sweep beginning the third set with a 5-2 run, picking up their seventh consecutive win and improving to 16-2 in the MIAA. UCM was led offensively by sophomore
Rachel Ziesman's match-high eight kills on 12 swings (.417 hitting percentage) adding a match-high five blocks, and three digs while middle blocker
Elinor Engel contributed seven kills (on 12 attempts for a .583 attack percentage) and three blocks respectively.
Defensively, the Jens outhit Newman by a margin of .326 to .032 overall on the afternoon including .435 to .000 in the first set thanks to a team-high 11 digs from libero
