WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 17-ranked and second-seeded Central Missouri Jennies soccer advanced to the MIAA Women's Soccer Championship semifinals with a 2-1 win over seventh-seeded Central Oklahoma in the first round Friday, Nov. 3, at the South Recreation Complex.
The Jennies (14-3-2) will face the winner of the Fort Hays State/Northeastern State opening round match Thursday, Nov. 9, at noon at the Stryker Soccer Complex in Wichita, Kan.
UCM scored both of its goals in the first half of the match and was able to hold on the final 45 minutes for the victory.
Ryann Clark opened the scoring for Central Missouri in the 19th-minute, slotting a pass from
Ashleigh Martin into the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season, giving UCM a 1-0 advantage.
The Bronchos (6-7-6) answered in the 24th-minute, knotting the match, 1-1, on a goal from Amaya Grace.
UCM went back in front for good, 2-1, in the 41st-minute when
Nayeli Gallo scored her first goal of 2023 on an assist from
Andree Orcutt.
For the match, Central Missouri outshot Central Oklahoma, 20-12, including a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Jennies also bested the Bronchos in corner kicks, 8-3.
UCM goalkeeper
Kristen Wright (13-2-2-) earned the victory in goal after giving up one goal while making five saves in 90 minutes.
UCO goalkeeper Avery Bass suffered the setback between the posts, allowing two goals and making seven saves in 90 minutes.
