WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (13-7, 10-2) swept the Missouri Western Griffons (14-7, 7-5) by a final score of 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-22) on Tuesday, Oct. 17, inside the Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg, Mo.
After taking the opening set of the match, UCM led 7-5 in the second before going on a 7-2 run highlighted by three kills from redshirt senior
Kersti Nix (10 kills and three blocks overall) giving the Jens a 2-0 advantage. With the score tied at 21 in the third, Central Missouri benefited from four Griffon attack errors including the match winner thanks to block assists from redshirt junior
Grace Southern (nine kills on 19 swings for a .316 attack percentage) and setter
Olivia Olson (match-high 38 assists eight digs, three blocks, and three kills overall).
Offensively, the Jens were led by freshman
Elinor Engel's double-double performance with a match-high 11 kills on 17 attempts (.529 hitting percentage) adding a career-high 10 blocks for good measure, plus, outside hitter
Emma Siron contributed 10 kills on 22 swings (.409 hitting percentage). On the night, UCM outhit the Griffons .330 to .131 including a margin of .474 to .257 in the second set.
Defensively, UCM was led by libero
Grace Winkelmann's team-high 14 digs, while redshirt senior
Sydney Lierz added seven digs, four blocks, and four kills for good measure. Defensive specialist
Jackie Storm collected six digs and junior
Arley Anderson had four digs in the winning effort.
The Jennies return to the court on Friday, Oct. 20, as they take on No. 21 Washburn Ichabods with first serve scheduled for 6:00 p.m. inside Lee Arena in Topeka, Kan.
