KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Missouri Jennies soccer student-athletes
Julia Kristensen and
Lindsay Edmonds were both voted MIAA Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week for their performances on the pitch during the week of Sept. 12-18, the conference office announced Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Kristensen garnered Offensive Athlete of the Week honors while Edmonds was selected Defender of the Week.
A redshirt freshman forward from St. Charles, Mo., Kristensen earned her first-career Athlete of the Week accolade after scoring two goals – both game winners – and dishing out an assist in Central Missouri's wins over Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State Friday, Sept 16, and Sunday, Sept. 18.
In the 3-2 win over the Griffons Friday, Kristensen scored the game-winning goal with just three minutes remaining in the second half after placing a shot from just outside the box into the back of the net. She also had the assist on
Madilyn Hamline's game-tying goal vs. Missouri Western in the 59th minute.
Sunday, in the thrilling 2-1 triumph over the Bearcats, Kristensen scored the game-winning goal off a Hamline assist with only three minutes remaining in the second half.
Edmonds, a redshirt junior defender from Overland Park, Kan., tallied her second-career Athlete of the Week award after netting the game-tying goal in the 85th minute in UCM's win over Northwest Missouri. She did not come off the field in Friday's victory against Missouri Western, playing the full 90 minutes. On the week, Edmonds played in 131 out of a possible 180 minutes.
The fourth-ranked Jennies are scheduled to host 12th-ranked Central Oklahoma at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, before welcoming Newman to Warrensburg for a 1 p.m. tussle Sunday, Sept. 25.
