WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Sixth-ranked Central Missouri Jennies soccer scored two goals in the final five minutes of the second half to rally from a 1-0 deficit and defeat the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats, 2-1, in the 2022 MIAA opener for both teams Sunday, Sept. 18, at the South Recreation Complex.
The Jennies (7-0-1, 1-0 MIAA) are scheduled to host No. 10-ranked Central Oklahoma Friday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. in Warrensburg.
Trailing 1-0 after Northwest Missouri's Kaylie Rock netted a goal just after halftime in the 47th minute, Central Missouri drew a corner kick with just over five minutes remaining in the second half.
Caroline Cole placed her corner on the right side of the post, and
Lindsay Edmonds headed the ball into the top right corner of the net, tying the match, 1-1, in the 85th minute. It was her second goal of the season and Cole's fourth assist.
UCM didn't waste anytime scoring what turned out to be the game-winning goal just two minutes later.
Madilyn Hamline corralled the ball near midfield and slid a pass to a wide-open
Julia Kristensen, who calmly tapped the ball into the lower right corner of the net in the 87th minute, giving the Jennies a 2-1 advantage. It was Kristensen's fifth goal and Hamline's third assist of 2022.
For the match, Northwest Missouri (4-2-2, 0-1 MIAA) outshot Central Missouri, 17-13, but the Jennies placed seven of their 13 shots on goal while the Bearcats could only put five on target.
UCM goalkeeper
Sydney Beck (7-0-1) earned the win between the posts, making three saves, including a crucial stop in the 65th minute, and allowing one goal in 90 minutes.
Rock led Northwest Missouri State, netting the Bearcat's lone goal on seven shot attempts.
Northwest Missouri goalkeeper Lily Ellis (4-2-2) suffered the setback in goal, giving up two goals while making five saves in 90 minutes.
