ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Central Missouri Mules and Jennies track and field wrapped up its season with one National Champion and nine All-Americans at the 2022 NCAA-II Outdoor Championships Saturday, May 28, at GVSU Lacrosse/Track & Field Stadium on the Grand Valley State University campus.
In the final team standings, the Mules tied for 10th with 27 points in 21 events while the Jennies tied for 16th with 15 points in 21 events.
Goodwin Wins Long Jump National Title
- Mules senior Christopher Goodwin captured the first-ever NCAA-II Long Jump National Championship in program history Thursday after recording a school record and personal-best jump of 7.93m (26 ¼) on his fifth attempt. It was his fourth-career All-American honor and his first National Title.
All-American Performances
Throws
- Senior Ashlan Burton capped her phenomenal Central Missouri career with a pair of All-American performances in the women's shot put and discus. She finished as the National Runner-Up in the shot put after posting a mark of 15.84m (51-11 ¾) Saturday and earned her first-career All-American accolade in the discus after placing eighth with a mark of 46.90m (153-10) Friday. The Urbandale, Iowa, native ends her time in the Red and Black with seven total All-American honors.
Pole Vault
- Senior Vincent Hobbie wrapped up his outstanding career as a Mule with a National Runner-Up finish in the men's pole vault Thursday, clearing a personal-best height of 5.40m (17-8 ½). The Stutensee, Germany, native caps his UCM career with six All-American awards and an indoor pole vault National Championship in 2019.
- Sophomore Jack Hodge earned his first-career All-American honor in the pole vault after placing sixth Thursday, clearing a height of 5.20m (17 ¾).
- Junior Madi Wulfekotter picked up her second-career All-American accolade in the pole vault Saturday, placing fourth after clearing a height of 4.25m (13-11 ¼).
Sprints
- Sophomore Antonio Lay earned All-American honors in both the men's 100m and 200m dashes Saturday. He placed fourth in the 100m dash with a time of 10.53 and was eighth in the 200m dash at 20.77. Lay is now a three-time All-American in his UCM career and is the first All-American in program history in the 100m dash and just the second all-time in the 200m dash.
Distance
- Junior Jana Shawver earned her first-career All-American award in the women's 800m run Saturday, finishing eighth with a time of 2:09.73.
