ST. LOUIS, Mo. – No. 18-ranked Central Missouri Mules wrestling's 2021-22 season wrapped up Saturday, March 12, at the NCAA-II Championships inside Chaifetz Arena as
John Ridle finished fourth at 157 pounds and
Darick Lapaglia placed eighth at 149 pounds, with both wrestlers earning All-American accolades.
Ridle, a sophomore from West Dundee, Ill., went 1-2 on the day, dropping a 5-4 decision to No. 3 Josiah Rider (27-2) of Adams State (Colo.) in the 157 semifinals before bouncing back with a come-from-behind, 9-7 decision over Davis and Elkins Noah Tarr (30-10) in the consolation bracket semis, advancing him to the third-place math against No. 6 Ryan Wheeler of Colorado Mesa.
Wheeler (23-8) pinned Ridle at 1:16 to win the match, ending Ridle's season with a fourth place showing and a 27-5 record.
A redshirt sophomore from Blue Springs, Mo., Lapaglia posted a record of 0-2 Saturday, coming up on the short end of a 5-1 decision against Logan Bailey (36-8) of Indianapolis in the 149 consolation third round prior to dropping a 7-1 decision to No. 8 Josh Laubach (16-3) of Alderson Broaddus in the seventh-place match.
Lapaglia capped his 2021-22 campaign with an eighth place showing and tallied a record of 21-10.
The two All-Americans mark the most for Central Missouri Mules wrestling since 2014-15 when Frank Cagnina captured the 149-pound national championship and Archie Williams placed fifth at 174 pounds.
