WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Missouri Jennies basketball outscored No. 9-ranked Fort Hays State 35-21 in the second half but came up short of completing a comeback, falling to the Tigers on Senior Day, 60-54, Saturday, Feb. 19, inside the Multipurpose Building.
The Jennies (17-10, 13-7 MIAA) are scheduled to travel to Edmond, Okla., for an MIAA road game at Central Oklahoma Wednesday, Feb. 23.
Olivia Nelson paced Central Missouri with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor and a 6-of-6 showing at the free-throw line and added five assists, while
Brooke Littrell netted 14 points and
Nija Collier tallied her team-best 16th double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Jennies shot 37 percent from the field for the game, making 19 of 52 attempts, but were just 22 percent from three-point range at 4-for-18. UCM went a perfect 12-of-12 at the free-throw line.
Central Missouri outrebounded Fort Hays State (23-3, 17-3 MIAA), 37-29, but committed 21 turnovers which led to 21 Tiger points. Both teams netted 30 points in the paint.
Whitney Randall scored 19 points, leading Fort Hays State.
The Tigers were 42 percent from the floor at 23-for-55, and 47 percent from beyond-the-arc, going 7-of-15.
