PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Central Missouri Mules (6-5,2-4) defeated the Pittsburg State Gorillas (4-7, 2-4) by a final score of 64-62 on Saturday, Dec. 17, inside the John Lance Arena in Pittsburg, Kan.
The Gorillas jumped out to a 17-point lead with 11:33 remaining in the first half, but the Mules fought back and trailed by five at the break.
In the second half, UCM returned the favor by going on a 14-2 run and took a six-point lead with a jumper from
Mikel Henderson who led the Mules with 14 points and one assist respectively. With the scored tied at 62 with 13 seconds left, Mules' head coach
Doug Karleskint called a timeout.
On the ensuing UCM possession, guard
Kobe Campbell (12 points and six rebounds overall) drove the baseline and missed a layup but sophomore
Jack Chapman (12 points and two rebounds overall) grabbed the miss and converted the eventual game winning bucket with one second left on the clock.
Forward
Ben Fritz ended the night with seven points and seven rebounds while redshirt junior
Garrett Luinstra added a game-high seven assists, six points, and five rebounds. Redshirt senior
Gaven Pinkley had a game-high eight rebounds and four points; plus, guard
Trey Sides contributed five points, three rebounds, and two assists in the victory.
The Mules return to the court on Saturday, Dec. 31 as they host the Fort Hays State Tigers with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from the Multipurpose Building.
