WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Fourth-ranked Central Missouri Jennies soccer rolled to a 5-0, shutout win over SWOSU in the opening round of the NCAA-II Central Region Tournament Friday, Nov. 11, at the South Recreation Complex.
The Jennies (19-1-2) will face Emporia State (12-6-4) in a second-round match Sunday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. in Warrensburg.
Madilyn Hamline and
Ashleigh Martin each scored two goals, and
Lindsay Edmonds added a goal, while
Caroline Cole and
Julia Kristensen each dished out two assists.
Peyton Wagoner also tallied an assist, rounding out the Central Missouri offensive leaders.
UCM scored 31 minutes into the match, taking a 1-0 lead when Hamline took a Kristensen pass and hammered it home.
Two minutes later, in the 33rd minute, Edmonds headed a corner kick from Cole into the far-right corner, doubling the Jennies' advantage to 2-0. It was Edmond's fourth goal of the season.
Central Missouri added one more goal before halftime after Martin belted an assist from Cole into the back of the net in the 35th minute.
UCM kept its foot on the gas in half number two.
Hamline made it 4-0 in the 51st minute, netting her second goal of the contest and 13th of the season on another assist from Kristensen.
Martin put an exclamation mark on the match, upping the home side's lead to 5-0 in the 73rd minute after tallying her second goal of the match and fifth of 2022 on a pass from Wagoner.
With their two assists, Cole and Kristensen built their season total to a team-best nine while Wagoner notched her third assist for the season.
For the match, Central Missouri outshot SWOSU (9-5-7), 15-11, including an 11-6 edge in shots on goal.
Jennies' goalkeeper
Sydney Beck (19-1-2) earned her 10th shutout of the season after allowing no goals and making six saves in 83 minutes while fellow UCM goalkeeper
Olivia Ways picked up her third combined shutout, giving up zero goals in seven minutes.
