Topeka, Kan. – The 23
rd ranked Central Missouri Jennies (12-7, 7-3 MIAA) fell to the No. 12 Washburn Ichabods (16-3, 8-3 MIAA) by a final of 3-0 (20-25, 21-25, 18-25) on Saturday, Oct. 8, inside Lee Arena.
The Ichabods trailed early in the opening set 4-2 but responded with an 11-2 run. The Jens fought back to cut the deficit to one, but Washburn responded with a 5-1 run to take a 1-0 lead. Central Missouri trailed 19-18 in the second, but the Ichabods claimed the set with a 5-2 run.
With the scored tied at four in the third, Washburn went on an 8-2 run to claim the set and match. The Jens were led offensively by outside hitters
Kersti Nix and
Grace Southern, each recording seven kills and five blocks.
Defensively, libero
Grace Winkelmann had a team-high 17 digs, plus redshirt freshman
Jenna Schulte recorded a match-high nine blocks and five kills. Setter
Chandler Vaughan contributed a team-high 14 assists, four blocks, and two digs respectively.
Central Missouri returns to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 11, as they travel to Maryville, Mo. to take on the Northwest Missouri Bearcats beginning at 6:00 p.m.
