Emporia, Kan. – The 23
rd ranked Central Missouri Jennies (12-6, 7-2 MIAA) defeated the Emporia State Hornets (4-15, 1-9 MIAA) by a final of 3-1 (26-28, 25-18, 25-16, 25-10) on Friday, Oct. 7, inside the White Auditorium.
After trailing 9-2 to begin the match, the Hornets fought back tying the set at 21 before ultimately outlasting the Jens. With the scored tied at 15 in the second, UCM went on a 10-3 run capped off by a redshirt sophomore
Grace Southern ace (13 kills, match-high six blocks, three digs, and two service aces overall).
Holding a one-point lead in the third set, Central Missouri went on an 11-4 run to take a 2-1 lead. Redshirt junior
Sydney Lierz (match-high 16 kills, four digs, and two blocks overall) and outside hitter
Rachel Ziesman (12 kills and four blocks overall) each recorded four kills in the set.
With a 13-8 lead in the fourth, the Jennies ended the match on a 12-2 run including three kills from redshirt freshman
Justine Bichelmeyer (seven kills, four digs, and two blocks overall). In the win, Central Missouri outhit the Hornets by a .307 to .170 margin.
