WICHITA, Kan. – The Central Missouri Jennies (17-8, 12-4) defeated the Newman Jets (8-19, 3-14) by a final score of 3-1 (25-16, 25-16, 23-25, 25-16) inside Fugate Gymnasium to extend their winning streak to six games on Friday, Oct. 28.
Highlighted by an 8-2 run in the first, the Jens took a 2-0 lead into the third set. Trailing 21-17, the Jets went on their own 8-2 run to force a fourth set. UCM held a 17-13 advantage in the fourth before ending the match on an 8-3 run with back-to-back kills from
Rachel Ziesman (14 kills, three blocks, and three digs overall).
On the night, the Jennies outhit Newman by a margin of .223 to .123 led by
Kersti Nix' match-high 20 kills, five digs, and one block. Setter
Chandler Vaughan recorded her team-high sixth double-double of the year with a match-high 48 assists, 16 digs, and four blocks. Sophomore
Tiffany Little recorded 13 kills, two digs and one block in the win.
Defensively, Central Missouri was led by libero
Grace Winkelmann's team-high 23 digs while redshirt senior
Rylie Barnum recorded 19 digs. Outside hitter
Grace Southern ended the match with five digs, four blocks, and three kills; plus, middle blocker
Jenna Schulte had eight kills and three blocks respectively.
UCM plays their final road match of the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 1 inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center against the Missouri Southern Lions beginning at 6:00 p.m.
