HAYS, Kan. – The Central Missouri Jennies (16-8, 11-4 MIAA) defeated the Fort Hays State Tigers (10-14, 5-11 MIAA) by a final score of 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-17) on Saturday, Oct. 22, inside the Gross Memorial Coliseum.
UCM held a three-point advantage at 17-14 in the first before ending the set on an 8-2 run outhitting the Tigers by a margin of .433 to .000 percent. In the second, the Jens picked up right where they left off with a 14-2 run before taking the set. Beginning the third with a 12-4 run, Central Missouri proved to be too strong for a Tiger comeback.
On the night, the Jens outhit Fort Hays State .267 to .050 thanks to outside hitters
Tiffany Little (match-high 13 kills, two digs, and one block overall) and
Kersti Nix (match-high 13 kills, one dig, and one block overall). Setter
Olivia Olson recorded a double-double (match-high 30 assists, 10 digs, and seven blocks overall) in the victory.
Defensively, Central Missouri was led by libero
Grace Winkelmann's match-high 21 digs, while redshirt sophomore
Grace Southern recorded seven kills, seven blocks, and two digs respectively.
The Jens return to the court on Thursday, Oct. 27 as they head to Edmond, Okla. to take on the Central Oklahoma Bronchos beginning at 6:00 p.m.
