No. 25 Jennies Volleyball Beats Lions in Four

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 25 Central Missouri Jennies (13-8, 8-4 MIAA) defeated the Missouri Southern Lions (9-12, 4-8 MIAA) by a final score of 3-1 (25-11, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19) inside the Multipurpose Building on Friday, Oct. 14.
 
The Jens began the match on a 12-4 run that propelled them to take a 1-0 lead. With the score tied at 19 in the second, the Lions ended the set on a 6-2 run to even the match. Holding onto a 15-12 lead in the third, UCM pulled ahead with an 8-2 run before winning the set.
 
Outside hitters Kersti Nix (match-high 18 kills, .394 attack percentage, and five blocks overall) and Tiffany Little (16 kills, and three digs overall) each recorded five kills in the third set. In the fourth, the Jens had a three-point lead before going on a 9-3 run which helped seal the victory.
 
Central Missouri was led by Chandler Vaughan's double-double performance (match-high 51 assists, 11 digs, and three blocks overall), while libero Grace Winkelmann recorded a match-high 19 digs. On the night, UCM outhit the Lions by a .353 to .149 margin.
 
Redshirt sophomore Grace Southern had a match-high seven blocks while adding nine kills, plus freshman Rachel Ziesman added 10 kills on 17 attempts for a .529 attack percentage.
 
The Jennies return to the Multipurpose Building court Saturday, Oct. 14, as they host the Pittsburg State Gorillas beginning at 7:00 p.m.
