WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Ashleigh Martin scored a goal in the 89th-minute to break a 3-3 tie and give the No. 7 University of Central Missouri Jennies soccer team a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota State Mavericks in the 2021 home opener Friday, Sept. 10, at the South Recreation Complex.
Central Missouri (3-0-0) is scheduled to host third-ranked Grand Valley State (3-0-0) Sunday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m.
Martin, a freshman from St. Charles, Mo., placed her right-footed strike from just outside the box into the back of the net with just one-minute remaining in regulation. It was her first collegiate goal.\
Sydney Leslie had two goals for the Jennies, while
Isa Yanes also scored, rounding out the UCM scoring.
Jordan Austin and Martin also each tallied an assist, respectively.

Lindsey Johnson improved to a perfect 3-0-0 on the season between the posts after going the full 90 minutes and making five saves.
The Mavericks (1-1-0) scored the first two goals of the match in the eighth and 27th-minutes to gain a 2-0 advantage. Minnesota State would take the two-goal lead into halftime.
The Jennies began to chip away at the MSU lead at the start of the second half, starting in the 52nd-minute when Leslie netted her first goal of 2021, trimming the Maverick edge to 2-1.
Twenty minutes later, Yanes headed a corner kick from Austin past Minnesota State goalkeeper Claire Longueville, knotting the contest, 2-2.
MSU wasn't done though and responded with a goal in the 80th-minute, regaining a 3-2 advantage.
The Jennies wasted no time answering, as Leslie placed a Martin feed into the back of the net just four minutes later in the 83rd-minute to complete her brace and tie the match up, 3-3.
Martin completed the comeback six minutes later with her game-winner.
Brynn Desens netted a goal and tallied an assist, and had four shots on goal, pacing Minnesota State in the contest.
Longueville (1-1-0) took the loss in-goal for the Mavericks after allowing four goals and making five saves in 90 minutes.
