PITTSBURG, Kan. (April 10, 2021) - Central Missouri Mules Baseball kept rolling picking up a doubleheader sweep over Pittsburg State. UCM scored 28 runs in the two games, winning 10-3 and 18-6 to improve to 23-4 and 19-1 in the MIAA.
Game 1 Central Missouri 10, Pittsburg State 3
How it Happened
• Central Missouri turned on the offense late and ended up outhitting the Gorillas 12-8.
• Eight of the nine batters in the Mules lineup had at least one hit.
• Pittsburg State left six runners on base compared to the Mules four.
• UCM played an error-free game in the field.
• Pittsburg State started the scoring in the first hitting a two-out solo home run for an early 1-0 lead.
• The scored stayed that way as
Mason Green and Gorilla started David Henderson matched zeroes.
• Henderson didn't allow a base runner until the fifth inning.
Micah Evans broke up the no-hit bid with a one-out single in the fifth.
• Green however did his part, racking up the strikeouts including striking out the side in order in the fourth inning.
• UCM finally broke through in the sixth scoring five runs. The first five batters of the inning all reached base.
Donovan Ditto led off with a double. He scored on an error to tie the game at one.
• Two batters later,
Dusty Stroup's single brought in two and the Mules had their first lead, 3-1. A squeeze bunt brought in
Erik Webb for a 4-1 lead and
Micah Evans capped the inning with a solo home run to left.
• A wild pitch in the seventh brought in
Harrison Schnurbusch with the Mules sixth run. PSU cut the lead in half, 6-3, getting a two-run home run.
• UCM's offense kept putting up runs though.
Alex Madera drove in two with a single and a sacrifice fly put UCM up 9-3 through eight.

Erik Webb scored the Mules 10th run with his 10th home run of the season as the Mules took game one, 10-3.

Mason Green struck out 10 batters in six innings of work allowing a run on five hits.

Micah Evans was 2-4 with a home run and two runs score.

For the Gorillas
• David Henderson got the start and threw five shutout innings before running into trouble in the sixth. He allowed four runs on four hits with six strikeouts in five-plus innings.
• Caleb Carr entered the game late and walked and homered in his two at bats.
• Greyson Pinkett homered for the Gorillas first run.
• Cruz Aranda and Dawson Pomroy were each 2-4.
Game Two - Central Missouri, Pittsburg State
How it Happened
• UCM muscled their way pounding 22 hits.
• The Mules scored multiple runs in five innings. Pitt State scored all their runs in just one inning.
• Central Missouri completed the doubleheader without committing an error on defense.
• It took just two batters for the Mules to get on the board.
Erik Webb went deep for a 1-0 Mules lead.
• Central Missouri kept the offense going in the first.
Micah Evans drove in
Dusty Stroup with a single and
Alex Madera had the biggest blow, a two-out, two-run home run and the Mules led 4-0 before the Gorillas took a turn at bat.
• UCM led off the third inning with back-to-back-to-back doubles, the last two by
Cole Taylor and
Micah Evans driving in runs for a 6-0 lead.
• Pittsburg State threatened in the fourth getting two on, but Mule starter
Collin Jones induced a 5-4-3 double play to get out of the inning.
• The Mules hung three runs on the board in both the fifth and sixth innings. RBI singles from
Donovan Ditto and
Josh Schumacher produced runs in the fifth.

Dusty Stroup and
Cole Taylor led off the sixth with back-to-back triples. An Evans double and
Harrison Schnurbusch sacrifice fly put the Mules up a dozen, 12-0.
• Pittsburg State had just three hits entering the sixth, but the offense came to life. Three straight hits brought in their first runs of the game. PSU also got a pinch hit double and a two-run home run to score six in the frame and cut the lead in half, 12-6 going to the seventh.
• The Mules made sure to put the game out of reach in the ninth.
Josh Schumacher and
Cole Taylor each homered in the inning and the Mules scored six runs for an 18-6 win.

Micah Evans led the Mules hit brigade going 5-6 with three doubles, three runs and three RBI.

Dusty Stroup collected three doubles and triple going 4-6 with four runs scored.

Cole Taylor drove in four runs and finished a single shy of hitting for the cycle.

Collin Jones got the start and allowed three runs on six hits with four strikeouts. All three runs off Jones were scored in the sixth inning.

• Nick Brown got the start and allowed six runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
• Ryan Koval reached base three times with two hits and a walk. He doubled and drove in two.
• Tyler Henry came off the bench for a two-run home run.
• Garrett McGowan had a hit and a walk and scored a run.
News and Notes
• The Mules upped their winning streak to 18 straight.
• UCM set season-bests with 22 hits and eight doubles in game two. Of the Mules 22 hits, 14 were for extra bases.

Mason Green's 10 strikeouts are a season-high. It's his fourth 10+ strikeout game and first since the Division II World Series in 2019 against Ashland.
• The Mules were being no hit through 4.1 innings in game one.
Micah Evans had the first UCM hit with one out in the fifth. The Mules finished with 12 hits.
• Central Missouri scored all 10 runs in game one in the final four innings.

Erik Webb upped his hitting streak to 23 games.
• UCM scored 10+ runs in both games giving them 11 double-digit run games this season.

Micah Evans reached 50 career RBIs.
