WARRENSBURG, Mo. (March 6, 2021) - Central Missouri had it all clicking Saturday afternoon in their doubleheader sweep of Newman. The Mules offense scored 27 runs and UCM blanked Newman in game two. UCM improves to 8-4 on the season and 4-1 in the MIAA following their 14-5 and 13-0 wins.Â
How it Happened
Game 1 - Central Missouri 14 - Newman 5
• The Mules struck 19 hits and scored 14 runs in the first game of the doubleheader. Newman picked up five runs on 10 hits.
• Newman put runners on base with 10 hits and seven walks but left 13 runners on.
• Six Mules had multiple hit-games.
• UCM's bullpen pitched a scoreless 3.2 innings.
• The scoring started early when
Dusty Stroup lifted a long home run to left to put UCM up 2-0 in the first.
Cole Taylor kept the inning going with an RBI triple to score
Harrison Schnurbusch and the Mules were off and running.
• UCM put up another three spot in the second after the Jets got a run back on a two-out single.
Josh Schumacher's double to left scored a pair and
Erik Webb brought in another with an RBI single.
• After Newman cut the lead to 6-4 in the top of the third, the Mules scored four unanswered. One in the bottom of the third when
Cole Taylor took the first pitch of the inning over the fence in right for a home run. UCM got three more in the fourth. Webb hit his first home run of the game, a two-run shot and
Garrett Pennington brought in a run with a base knock to right.
• The Mules could have added more in the fifth, loading the bases with nobody out, but a foul pop up and a double play meant UCM had to wait to tack on.
• The Jets got a run back in the sixth scoring on an inside the park home run that got passed a diving
Micah Evans in center field and rolled to the wall. Newman threatened to add more, but
Hunter Little stranded two on base to end the inning.Â
• Central Missouri scored twice in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game away. Webb hit a two-run shot in the seventh and Evans and
Scott Wolverton each had an RBI in the eighth.
Mules Stat Leaders
• Webb finished the game 3-5 with two home runs and five RBI.Â

Josh Schumacher set the table as the leadoff hitter going 4-5 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Dusty Stroup was 3-5 with a home run, two RBI and scored twice.
•
Cole Taylor also had three hits including a home run.

Mason Green started and threw the first 5.1 innings giving up five runs on nine hits with five strikeouts.

For the Jets
• Zach Hargrove was 1-5 with an inside the park home run.
• Will Jordan and Jake Angelico each picked up two hits and an RBI.
• Devin Beard went 2-4 with a run scored.
• Luke Thoreson threw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Game Two - Central Missouri 13, Newman 0 (Seven Innings)Â
How it Happened
• Newman was held to just one hit, a single in the third while UCM scored 13 runs on 11 hits.
• This game was over pretty quick as UCM scored nine runs in the first. They sent 13 batters to the plate scoring nine runs with just five hits. Four Mules were hit by a pitch and seven Mules had an RBI in the inning.
• Two batters into the game, Webb picked up where he left off in game one. He laced a triple to right center to bring in
Josh Schumacher for a 1-0 lead.Â
• The rest of the inning saw three more hit batsmen, four singles, two that didn't leave the infield, a walk and a sacrifice fly. Stroup's deep fly to center with the bases loaded looked like it might leave the yard, but was hauled in on the warning track. That fly was deep enough though to score both
Micah Evans from third and
Gaven Strobel from second for a two-RBI sacrifice fly.
• The rest of the game was all
Collin Jones. Newman got just three base runners, a single, a walk and an error as Jones set the Jets down with ease.
• UCM scatted a couple more runs, including
Cole Moore's two RBI single in the fifth and went on to win 13-0.
Mules Stat Leaders
• Jones threw all seven innings for a complete game. He gave up just one hit and one walk and struck out seven.

Erik Webb had two more hits and an RBI.
•
Garrett Pennington had two base hits and scored twice.

Josh Schumacher doubled and scored twice.

Harrison Schnurbusch had a hit, two runs and an RBI.
For the Jets
• Zach Hargrove was the only one in the lineup to scratch out a hit.
• Logan Dickey was sharp out of the bullpen allowing a run on two hits in 3.1 innings.
News and Notes
• This is the first time this season the Mules have scored 10 runs in a game. Their 19 hits in game one is also a season-high.
• In both games, eight of the Mules nine starters had a hit. Ten different Mules picked up an RBI in game two.

Erik Webb's two home runs give him 50 for his career. As the Mules all-time leader in home runs, he is the first to ever reach 50.
• The complete game was the first of
Collin Jones' career. It's also the first complete game for a Mule since
Ben Kelsch against Missouri Southern in May, 2019.Â
• The Mules hit both right and left handed pitching going 15-39 against lefties and 15-31 against right handers
• UCM took 50 at bats with runners on base, hitting .400 and were 13-34 hitting with runners in scoring position.Â
• The Mules got the leadoff runner on base in nine of 14 innings they took a turn at bat.Â

Josh Schumacher finished the doubleheader 5-7 with three doubles and five runs scored.Â
