WARRENSBURG, Mo. (March 5, 2021) - Central Missouri Soccer suffered a 4-5 loss to Northwest Missouri in its spring home opener at Jennies Field Friday night.
Northwest Missouri scored the first goal of the match and quickly added another a minute later to take an early 2-0 advantage over UCM in the first half. Jennies freshman
Caroline Cole put UCM on the board with her second goal on the spring season, assisted by junior
Kassie Newsom. Sophomore
Shyanne Best scored the final goal before the break, assisted by freshman
Sydney Leslie, to end the first half in a 2-2 draw.
The Bearcats outscored the Jennies in the second half 3-2. Caroline found the back of Northwest's net again to score the final goal of the final 45 minutes, this time assisted by Leslie. After assisting two goals Leslie scored one of her own, scoring the final Jennies goal of the match with an assist from Newsom. Down 4-2, Northwest Missouri scored three straight goals in the remaining minute to earn the 5-4 victory over UCM.
Central Missouri recorded 11 shots on goal while Jennies goalkeeper
Hanna Groh and the UCM defense recorded eight saves. Cole and Leslie led the Jennies offense with four points each.
Jennies Soccer returns to action Sunday, March 7th against Washburn. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Topeka, Kansas.
