RUSSELLVILLE, Ark, (March 23, 2021) - First Team All-MIAA selection
Nija Collier can add another award to her growing list of accolades. This morning she was a part of the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-American Team.
The senior from Roseville, Mich. made the All-American team as an Honorable Mention. It's the first All-American award of any kind for Collier.
The D2CCA All-American team is voted on by the Division II Sports Information Directors. There are only 21 named D2CCA All-American.
Collier has led the Jennies to a 2021 Elite Eight appearance after winning the regional championship in Warrensburg last week. The Jennies also finished second in the MIAA regular season and enter the Elite 8 at 22-4 and were 19-3 in league play.
Collier leads the Jennies in scoring and rebounding. She averages 15 points per game and 8.1 rebounds. She's also blocked 39 shots and come up with 33 steals. Among league qualifiers, Collier sits second in the MIAA shooting 47.9% from the floor. She's added a long-range element to her game as well knocking down 30 three-pointers and shooting 41.7% from behind the arc. Collier is among the leaders in free throws having hit 88-of-111, 79.3%.
Seven times this season Collier has recorded a double-double and she's scored 20+ points in seven games. Three times she has been chosen as the MIAA Player of the Wek.
Collier and the Jennies begin their Elite 8 journey tonight as the No. 5 seed taking on No. 4 Belmont Abbey. The quarterfinal round game is set to tip off at 7:45 p.m. CT.Â
