WARRENSBURG, Mo. (March 21, 2021) - Central Missouri Softball won their final two games of the Missouri Western Regional Crossover to finish the weekend 5-1 and advance to 13-3 overall.
GAME 1 - Central Missouri 7, Concordia-St. Paul 5
How It Happened:
• Jennies first baseman
Makenzie McAtee recorded the first hit of the game with a double to left center in the bottom half of the first inning. She was then hit home on a single to right field by left fielder
Makenzie Cooper.
• Central Missouri added another before the end of the inning as an
Ashlyn Cook double scored pinch runner
Peyton Corrigan to give the Jennies an early 2-0 advantage.
• With the Golden Bears still scoreless, the Jennies gained a 4-0 lead after the second inning. A single by
Abbey Fischer scored third baseman
Jessica Sader then a ball hit to the infield by McAtee scored
Carson Staponski.
• A three-run bomb by CSP's right fielder Jacey Defries over left field put the Golden Bears on the board in the top of the third. Central Missouri then led by just one run, 4-3.
• With one out and runners in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth, center fielder
Bailey Fowler singled to left field scoring pinch runner
Aubrie McRoberts. Fowler was later thrown out attempting to steal third and Fischer scored during the play to increase the Jennies lead to 6-3.
• In the first at bat in the bottom of the fifth inning, Cooper crushed her fifth pitch over the center field fence, scoring what would be the Jennies final run of the game.
• Concordia-St. Paul was able to add a run in each of their final at bats. Petefish recorded two strikeouts in the Golden Bears final attempts to hold them to a five-run total.
• The Jennies dominated CSP offensively, totaling 12 hits to the Golden Bears five.
• The Golden Bears pitching staff recorded two strikeouts and walked two UCM batters while Petefish didn't allow a single walk and struck-out a season-high 13 batters.
Leading the Jennies:

Abbey Fischer recorded the team-high and game-high three hits in four at bats.
•
Makenzie Cooper led the Jennies with two RBI off two hits, a homerun and a double.
•
Paige Petefish recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts pitching the complete game against the Golden Bears. In 26 at bats, Petefish allowed five runs and five hits with no walks.
Leading the Golden Bears:
• With Jacey Defries's three-run homer in the top of the third, she would finish with the game-high three RBI.
• Aryka Knoche led CSP with two hits in three at bats.
• Kali Keastner threw the first two innings against the Jennies, allowing six hits, four runs and one walk.
• Knoche relieved Keastner in the circle in the fourth inning. She allowed another six UCM hits, three runs and one walk.
GAME 2 - Central Missouri 7, St. Cloud State 6 (8 innings)
How It Happened:
• St. Cloud State recorded the most hits off the Jennies so far this season with 14, out-hitting UCM by five.
• The Huskies got the bats moving early, scoring two in the top of the first with a two-run homer to center field.
• Center fielder
Ashlyn Cook put the Jennies on the board in the bottom of the first with a solo bomb to left center in UCM's first at bat of the inning.
• Another UCM dinger tied the game in the bottom of the third as
Abbey Fischer sailed one over left field with no runners on. The Jennies went on to gain the lead as Cook hit another homerun, this time with
Makenzie McAtee and
Bailey Fowler on base. Jennies led 5-2 moving into the fourth inning.
• A St. Cloud State tripled was followed by a double in the top of the fourth to add one run back and decreased the Jennies lead to two runs.
• Fowler found her way home again in the bottom of the fifth as St. Cloud State committed a fielding error on
Sydney Wellshear's infield hit. Jens led 6-3.
• The Huskies made it a one-point game in the top of the sixth with three hits, two runs and one UCM error. They would go on to tie the game in the following inning with three hits and another UCM defensive error.
• With one out and bases loaded, Lauren Kirchberg and the Huskies defense held UCM without a score to send the game into extra innings.
• With a runner placed on second,
Sadie Parks and the UCM defense recorded three straight outs to hold St. Cloud State with six runs.
• Central Missouri rallied. With
Aubrie McRoberts placed on second, a sacrifice bunt by
Bailee Bryant moved her to third. McAtee then reached on by a fielders choice and advanced to second, giving the Jennies two runners in scoring position.
• After St. Cloud State intentionally walked Fischer to have a chance at a forced out, Fowler came up with the hit of the day recording a walk-off single right field to defeat the Huskies 7-6.
• Freshmen Parks was the defensive hero of the game, recording a five big-time strikeouts in the final innings.
• Both the Jennies and the Huskies left a total of seven runner on base.
• Two errors ties UCM's season-high which they have only recorded in one other game this season.
Leading the Jennies:
•
Ashlyn Cook's back-to-back dingers led the UCM offense with four RBI.
• Cook, McAtee, and Fowler led the Jennies with two hits each.
• Grentry Wishard threw the first three innings against the Huskies allowing eight hits, and three runs while striking out three.
• Freshmen
Sadie Parks tied her career-high eight strikeouts while allowing six hits and three runs scored with no walks.
Leading the Huskies:
• Left fielder Cassie Francesconi led St. Cloud State with three hits in four at bats.
• Third baseman Megan Conrads drove in the time-high two runs.
• Right fielder Brooke Bowlin scored the team-high two runs.
• Laruen Krichberg faced the team-high 16 UCM batters. She allowed five hits, two runs scored and walked four.
News & Notes:
• On the day, UCM out hit its opponents 21-19 and out scored them 14-11.
• Junior
Ashlyn Cook led the Jennies offense on the day hitting .600 with five RBI.
• Cook's double in her first at bat of the day against CSP was her career 100th.
• The Jennies were caught stealing a season-high two times in game one against the Golden Bears.
• The Jennies are now 10-3 in their all-time series against both the Golden Bears and the Huskies.
• In total, the games hosted at Jennies Field this weekend saw 29 homeruns, 13 of which were off the bats of Jennies.

Jennies Softball will hit the road next weekend, March 26th and 27th, for MIAA doubleheaders against Newman and Central Oklahoma. Central Missouri will first travel to Wichita, Kan. to take on the Jets on Friday, March 26th. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. on the Newman Softball Field.
