TOPEKA, Kan. (Feb. 27, 2021) - After opening the 2021 season with back-to-back wins, Central Missouri Softball picked up two more victories on the second day of the Washburn Invitational.
Game 1 - Central Missouri 5, Minnesota Crookston 2
How it Happened:
• The Jennies were the first on and the first to score in their first ever meeting against UMC.
• In the bottom of the first, Jennies leadoff
Abbey Fischer made her way to first on a walk and quickly stole second. Fischer advanced to third on a fly out by
Bailey Fowler.
• With one out,
Ashlyn Cook also walked, giving UCM runners on first and third. On Cook's steal to second, UMC's catcher overthrew to second, scoring both Fischer and Cook to give the Jennies an early 2-0 advantage.
• The Golden Eagles earned their first hit of the game in the top of the fourth. A UMC single was followed by a double, scoring one.
• With two outs in the bottom of the fifth,
Brenlyn McCoy, Fischer, Fowler, and Cook hit four consecutive singles to make it a 4-1 game.
• Minnesota Crookston answered back in the top of the sixth with a run of their own. The Golden Eagles opened the inning with a double then scored off a sacrifice fly to right field.
• With one out in the bottom of the sixth, a passed by by UMC's catcher with bases loaded would score the Jennies final run of the game as
Makenzie Cooper hustled to home plate.
• Sadi Parks and the UCM defense shutout the Golden Eagles 3-3 in their final attempt at the plate.
• Five individual Jennies accounted for UCM's total hits. Central Missouir out-hit the Golden Eagles 5-3.
Leading the Jennies:
• Fischer, Fowler, Cook, Cooper and McCoy each finished with one hit.
• Fischer and Cook led UCM with a single stolen base each.
• Fischer scored the game-high two runs.
• In her first career appearance in the circle,
Sadie Parks threw the entire seven innings allowing just three hits and two runs. The freshmen didn't allow a single walk while also striking out eight Golden Eagles.
For the Golden Eagles:
• Three different eagles accounted for UMC's total hits.
• Shortstop Zarn led UMC with two RBI off one double and one sacrifice fly.
• Humhej pitched five innings for the Golden Eagles, allowing five hits, five runs and three walks while striking out seven Jennies.
Game 2 - Central Missouri 3, Truman State 1 (8 innings)
How it Happened:
• The Jennies and the Bulldogs first three innings saw no scores with no hits.
• In the top of the fourth,
Makenzie Cooper recorded the first hit of the game with a double to center field.
• In the following at bat,
Aubrie McRoberts doubled to left center to score pinch runner
Peyton Corrigan for the first score of the game.
• Central Missouri held onto its 1-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth. Truman State had one running on with a hit by pitch, then doubled to center field, scoring the runner from first.
• Both UCM and Truman recorded one hit and left one runner on base in the seventh inning.
• Moving into extra innings with international tie breaker run in place,
Ashlyn Cook was placed on second base with no outs. Cook stole third during the Jennies first at bat in the top of the eighth.

Sydney Wellshear hit a hard ground ball to third, scoring Cook and giving UCM a 2-1 lead with one out.

Abby Allnutt set UCM up for another score with a double down the right field line. Allnut scored on a McRoberts bunt which would be UCM's final run of the game as they lead 3-1.
• With a Bulldog runner placed on second in the bottom of the eight.
Kyleigh Lay and the UCM defense recorded three straight outs to defeat Truman State 3-1 in extra innings.
• Central Missouri out-hit the Bulldogs 8-5.
• The Jennies left a season-high nine runners on base.
Leading the Jennies:
• Freshman McRoberts led UCM with two hits on four at bats with one RBI.
• Wellshear hit her first tripple of the season with an RBI.
• Cook, Corrigan and Allnutt were responsible for the Jennies three runs.
• Cook, Fowler and McCoy each recorded a stolen base.

Gentry Wishard was UCM's winning pitcher with five strikeouts, five hits and one run allowed in 6.1 innings pitched.
• Lay relieved Wishard in the bottom of the six and allowed no hits or runs while striking out four.
For the Bulldogs:
• Third baseman Bowman led Truman State with two hits in three at bats.
• First baseman Klein drove in the Bulldogs lone run.
• Nicole Havel led Truman State's pitching with three hits allowed and one run scored in 17 batters faced.
News & Notes:

Gentry Wishard each earned their first wins of the season.
• The Jennies eight-inning game against Truman State is their first extra-inning game of the season. Central Missouri was 2-1 against teams in extra innings last season.
• Central Missouri's eight hits against Truman State ties the season-high which was set Friday in the Jennies 7-0 win over Missouri-St. Louis.
• The Jennies hit a season-high five doubles against the Bulldogs.
• Through four games, sophomore
Abbey Fischer and freshman
Aubrie McRoberts are the only Jennies hitting .500 or better.
• With today's wins, UCM leads the all-time series against UMC 1-0 and Truman State 61-47.
