JOPLIN, Mo. – Cameron Hunter scored 20 points, and
Ja'Cor Nelson posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Central Missouri Mules basketball team rolled to an 87-57 win at Missouri Southern Thursday, Dec. 16, inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
The Mules (5-3, 2-2 MIAA) are scheduled to travel to Pittsburg, Kan., for an MIAA contest at Pittsburg State Saturday, Dec. 18, at 3:30 p.m.
Hunter, a redshirt senior from Olathe, Kan., went 7-of-11 from the floor, including a 5-for-8 performance from three-point range, and 1-of-2 at the free-throw line for his game-high 20 points, while Nelson, a redshirt senior from Hopkins, S.C., tallied his third double-double of the season by going 8-of-12 from the field for his season-best-tying 16 points and pulling down his career-high-tying 12 boards.
Trey Sides added a career-best 13 points, and
Ikenna Okeke also scored in double figures for Central Missouri with 10 points, respectively.
The Mules shot a sizzling 52 percent from the field for the game, going 17-of-28, including a 13-of-26 performance from beyond-the arc for 50 percent, and went 10-for-13 at the free-throw line for 77 percent. UCM shot a scorching 61 percent from the field in the second half after shooting 44 percent in the first half.
The Mules also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Lions (6-4, 3-1 MIAA), 36-29, and scored 23 points off 18 Missouri Southern turnovers while only committing nine turnovers of their own in the game.
UCM limited MSSU to just 36 percent shooting from the field and 30 percent shooting from three-point range for the contest.
Avery Taggart, Christian Bundy and Lawson Jenkins each scored 11 points, pacing the Lions.
