Newsom Nets Hat-Trick as No. 18 Jennies Win at Central Oklahoma, 3-1

EDMOND, Okla. – Kassie Newsom netted a hat-trick leading No. 18 Jennies soccer to a 3-1 road victory at Central Oklahoma Sunday, Oct. 10, at Tom Thompson Field.  

The Jennies (10-1-1, 4-0-1 MIAA) are scheduled to host a pair of home matches next weekend starting with Fort Hays State on Friday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m.

Newsom, a junior from Lee's Summit, Mo., netted goals in the 18th, 24th and 84th minutes on her way to the first hat-trick for a Central Missouri Jennies soccer player since Makayla Toth scored a trio of goals against Augustana (S.D.) in 2019.  

The Jennies jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 18 minutes into the match when Newsom scored her first goal on a shot from just outside the box.

She doubled UCM's advantage to 2-0 just six minutes later after finding the back of the net once again for her second goal of the match.

Central Oklahoma's (8-3-1, 4-1-0) Harmony Turner pulled the Bronchos within one goal, cutting the UCM lead to 2-1 with a goal in the 63rd-minute, but Central Missouri and

Newsom answered, with Newsom completing her hat-trick and making it 3-1, with 16 minutes remaining in regulation on a goal off a strike from the right side of the field.

Newsom increased her team-best goal tally to 11 with her three goals Sunday, which also ties for the for best in the MIAA

UCM goalkeeper Lindsey Johnson improved to 10-1-1 in-goal after making five saves and giving up just one goal in 90 minutes between the posts.

For the match, Central Oklahoma outshot the Jennies, 18-10, but Central Missouri matched UCO in quality chances, with each team tallying six shots on goal.

Broncho goalkeeper Kaitlyn Asher took the loss in-goal for Central Oklahoma after allowing three goals and making three saves in 90 minutes.
